Gingham Style

Gingham is the cutest pattern for Fall. The checkered pattern was first made infamous by the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz as the main character and southern belle, Dorothy, wore her signature blue gingham  jumper dress while proclaiming, "We're not in Kansas anymore". Ever since then, this southern, romantic style has been adorable for Fall seasons and popularized by magazines and runways. The checkered pattern has been designed on shoes, shirts, dresses, bags and pants for a variety of gingham perfection.

As previously stated, the most iconic look for this trend is the sky blue checkers that pay homage to Dorothy's costume in the classic film. These dresses are undoubtedly preppy and adorable for day time functions. This pattern can be made in light or heavy fabric depending on the season. You'll find the dresses are better suited for warmer days and picnics than for snowy fashion. The blue looks good on all figures and skin tones!

Other colors have since been made trendy by magazines and celebrities. The red or pink gingham is girly and chic. The dress is perfect for a picnic or day date with girl friends The red goes perfectly with jean or khaki depending on the occasion. Dresses with floral prints are Fall trendy and gorgeous.

The styles above are a perfect example of how modern women wear gingham. Green gingham is the perfect trend for the southern belle. Most gingham shirts are styled as shown above. Long sleeve, double breasted pockets as a collared button down is the most popular style. You can make this item into a causal ensemble with jeans, flats and pink accessories. The shirt can even transition into work garb by pairing it with a pencil skirt and skinny belt.

Button down gingham can go from casual to flirty work appropriate in a pinch. Full khaki skirts are darling for Fall fashion. You can wow the office by getting yourself a gingham button down and mid-length neutral skirt. You can wear boots or flats depending on the temperature and never be afraid to layer for colder days! You can mix up your style by pairing your gingham with a fun colored skirt or another subtle pattern. have fun mixing and matching your gingham.

You can also layer your gingham or wear it with pants to create a warmer outfit for chilly days. You can wear any color jeans to accompany the checkered button down shirt. Dark jeans are best for the look. You can add a splash of color to Fall with hot red pants and layered jean under your gingham. White pants are always a classic look with gingham but as winter approaches, you may want to save this look for after the holiday season.

Gingham isn't just for shirts and dresses. Gingham bottoms are adorable for fashionable days. Gingham shorts are country club chic and great for sunny days. Longer flowing skirts and pencil skirt styles are adorable for office attire. Full gingham pants are bold but great for a warmer preppy look.

Gingham on top of more gingham is a very current trend in fashion as of late. The look takes a lot of confidence to pull off but has a big wow factor. The key to this look is complimentary colors. You shouldn't wear all matching gingham but different colors or line thickness gives this look a cute edgy feel.

Still confused on how to wear your gingham? Here is an info graphic of How To's to set the record straight. Reese Witherspoon looks adorable with white jeans and neutral sandals and the model next to her is just as stylish with green gingham and a full floral skirt. Both styles are feminine and fun.
