The Famous Slipper Made of GLASS

Hello Guys and Dolls!!!!!!! One of my all time favorites in life are the amazing stories from Mr. Walt #Disney. Nothing compares to the enchantment, beauty, music, and the never ending underlying theme of love. #Cinderella, of course is a favorite that encompasses all of the previously mentioned. This #1950's film has been re-made several times over the years. Each time showing us new and amazing ways this mesmerizing beauty can be depicted. There is one thing however, that must always be a part of each new revision, and that of course is Cinderella's infamous "glass slipper".

Just the other day I came across this little note and it sparked my interest:
I thought, "Is this true?" I decided to dig deep and find out the real history behind Cinderella's sparkly beauties!

(Master Replicas, under license from the Walt Disney Company, has recreated Cinderella's Glass Slipper)

So, did Cinderella really even wear a "glass" slipper?

"Ultimately, she did, although it took quite a few centuries, and an ill-fated experiment with squirrel fur, before Cinderella was able to find just the right fashionable footwear to stand the test of time. That's because Cinderella's glass slippers are a relatively modern addition to the classic fairy tale, which dates back to the 9th century. According to some 500 earlier versions of the story, Cinderella wore a magic ring or magic shoes made of gold, silver or another rare metal. The first suggestion of a glass slipper did not appear until 1697, when the French writer Charles Perrault wrote "Cendrillon." Perrault copied previous French versions, which portrayed the fair maiden wearing "pantoufles en vair," or "slippers of white squirrel fur." However, by the time Perrault wrote his script, vair had disappeared from the French language, so he replaced it with "verre," meaning glass. And Cinderella has worn "glass slippers" ever since." Amazingly enough there are versions of the Cinderella story told all around the world!

GREECE
The Ancient Greek historian Strabo (Geographica Book 17, 1.33) recorded in the 1st century BC the tale of the Greco-Egyptian girl Rhodopis, "rosy-cheeked", who lived in the Greek colony of Naucratis in Ancient Egypt. It is often considered the oldest known version of the story: They tell the fabulous story that, when she was bathing, an eagle snatched one of her sandals from her maid and carried it to Memphis. While the king was administering justice in the open air, the eagle, when it arrived above his head, flung the sandal into his lap. The king, having been stirred both by the beautiful shape of the sandal and by the strangeness of the occurrence, sent men in all directions into the country in quest of the woman who wore the sandal. When she was found in the city of Naucratis, she was brought up to Memphis and became the wife of the king
 CHINA
Another version of the story, Ye Xian, appeared in Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang by Duan Chengshi around 860. Here, the hardworking and lovely girl befriends a fish, the reincarnation of her mother, who was killed by her stepmother and sister. Ye Xian saves the bones, which are magic, and they help her dress appropriately for the New Year Festival. When she loses her slipper after being recognized by her stepfamily, the king finds her slipper and falls in love with her (eventually rescuing her from her cruel stepmother).
PHILIPPINES
Another version of the story, which is similar to the Chinese version, exists in the Philippines. The story is known as "Mariang Alimango" (Mary the Crab). The ill-treated Maria wins the heart of the prince during his coming-of-age celebration, and overcomes the cruelty of her stepmother and evil stepsisters. In this version, the spirit of her dead mother reincarnates as a crab, hence the title, and serves as her "fairy godmother". The slipper-test is also present, and it has a huge resemblance to the Cinderella tales of the Middle Eastern countries.
 VIETNAM
In the Vietnamese version Tấm Cám, Tam is mistreated by both her father's co-wife and half-sister, who stole her birthright by winning a wager of fishing unjustly proposed by the stepmother. The only fish that was left to her was killed and eaten by her step-family, but its bones served as her protector and guardian, eventually leading her to be the king's bride during a festival. The protagonist however, turns into the antagonist in part two of the story, by boiling her stepsister alive and then fooling her stepmother into cannibalism by feeding her own daughter's flesh.
KOREA
There is a Korean version, too, named "Kongjwi and Patjwi(콩 쥐팥쥐)". It deals a story about a kind girl Kongjwi who was constantly abused by her stepmother and stepsister Patjwi. The step-family forces Kongjwi to stay at home while they attend the king's ball, but a fairy appears like that in Perrault and gives her an attire more beautiful than everyone else. The motif is same, concerning also a king falling in love with her. But some minor details have changed because this fictional story is taking place in Korea. That includes the slipper's details and the usual festivals that happen in the Cinderella stories.

Not only have there been various versions of Cinderella written throughout life- there have also been different glass slippers created as well. Cinderella's slippers have been quite influential, even in the fashion world

One of today's most popular shoe designers in the world has apparently been bitten by the Cinderella bug, and it is said that it isn't a new bite. Mr. "Red Bottom" himself, the great Christian Louboutin is known to be a HUGE Disney fan (ten thousand more points for him!) and was very involved in the re-release of Cinderella on Blu-Ray this past autumn by designing his very own glass slipper!!!!

You wanna see????

*drum roll*

I literally almost fainted when I heard of this collaboration! *Deep breath* I live for amazing colabs, and this one is just so magical!!!

CBS Did a write up on the big colab, check it out

"Christian Louboutin has put his signature red-sole spin on a very famous pair of (fictional) footwear.
The shoe designer teamed up with Disney to create a modern-day version of Cinderella's glass slippers, which were unveiled in Paris on Wednesday.
Disney invited Louboutin to re-imagine the famous slipper in honor of the release of "Cinderella" on Blu-Ray this fall.
"Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairytale love, but also shoes," the designer said in a statement. "Her character and her story dictated the design to me, it was all there in the pages and the words of this tale."
There's no glass in this modern-day version of the shoe - Louboutin's design is made of white lace adorned with crystals and sparkling butterflies.
Just 20 pairs of the Cinderella shoes will be produced, Disney announced Wednesday. According to USA Today, the pairs will be given away worldwide this fall, and Disney and Louboutin will release details on the giveaway next month."(July 5th, 2012) CBS News

The shoes - which of course include Louboutin's trademark red soles - are constructed of delicate crystal-adorned lace with two sparkling butterflies resting on the shoes, one landing on the vamp while the other sits closely behind atop of the crystal covered heel, gently brushing the ankle. More info

"The master craftsman concedes there were challenges to designing the shoe. "You imagine it being completely transparent, (made) out of glass," Louboutin says. But "full and classical transparency made into a shoe makes a really ugly foot." And using a plastic such as Lucite "could look very '60s or sort of punky."
Instead, Louboutin used lace to give the illusion of transparency, paired with a glittering, Swarovski-crystal-covered heel. He then added butterflies, imagining a modern-day Cinderella tending to her chores and the delicate creature landing on her" .USA Today

Wow....how fitting!!!!!

" Lori MacPherson, executive vice president of global product management at Disney, calls the shoe "possibly the most iconic shoe in literature" and says the Louboutin collaboration is a "fitting tribute."" USA Today

AGREED!!!!

Welp... I've been re-bitten.. I'm headed off to watch "Cinderella" right this second! But, before I go I want to leave you with one of my favorite scenes from Rodger and Hammerstein's 1997 version of Cinderella with Brandy Norwood and the late Whitney Houston. The song is called "Impossible." And this is another thing that I so loved about Cinderella. She was such a dreamer and believer that her life would not always remain the way it was. I believe she made it through her roughest days by singing herself happy. Cinderella could "see" her dreams and eventually they became her reality. She for sure spoke her desires and wants into existence. By faith, she continued to BELIEVE!!

Never stop believing folks!!! Just look around..
*Impossible, things are happening every dayyyyyyyyy* !!!!!
