Inauguration Day 2013 Style

Inauguration day comes but once every four years. A new or returning President takes the oath to protect our rights a citizens and do their best to run our government fairly and without malice. This historic day is critical to our way of life and our freedom as the United States of America. The event is also a reason thousands of people swarm Washington, D.C. to take part in history and watch out government at work. This is also a day for celebrities and fashion! Stars like Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Jay-Z and Eva Longoria graced the Inauguration stage yesterday during the chilly Martin Luther King Day afternoon.

The whole process began Sunday afternoon with the swearing into office. This is traditionally done on the same Sunday after every election and this year was no break in history. President Obama swore an oath on his family Bible in the Blue Room of the White House. The location was fitting since Michelle Obama, First Daughter Malia Obama and the President were are all decked out in the hue. Although, Sasha went a bit more bold for the occasion in pink lace. This event was televised for the world to see over the weekend and inspired our hearts and our eyes. The first family all wore blue and purple hues as their stylist clearly intended. They also wore the same color palette Monday on Inauguration Day. Michelle and her husband matched a blue dress and tie while Sasha and Mailia wore shades of purple and perry-winkle.

For Monday's Inauguration Day festivities, the first glimpses of the First Lady and the family were breath taking. Michelle kept with the color theme by wearing an indigo checked Thom Browne coat. We can't quite see what's underneath the coat, however she did accessorize with J.Crew heel, a multi-strand pearl necklace and purple gloves to match her daughter's attire. She later changed into a pair of custom-made, navy suede boots by Reed Krakoff for the ceremony at the Capitol. Michelle also later belted the coat to add a fitted flare to the ensemble.

The Obama daughter's were classy and stylish as per usual. Both girls looked beyond their years in mature couture from Kate Spade and J. Crew. Malia, 14, chose a magenta J.Crew coat and violet tights to impress the crowd. A blue dress was barely peaking from beneath. The 14-year-old will definitely show more of her style in the upcoming 4 year term. Her younger sister Sasha, 11, opted for a purple Kate Spade coat and white statement necklace Monday morning. Sasha unbuttoned her coat to reveal a full-skirted, purple-on-purple striped Kate Spade dress. Purple happens to be the most universally flattering color but the girls looked stunning regardless of this fact and shade!

Now on to the fancy attire of the Inaugural Ball! Last Inauguration, in 2009, Michelle Obama was made infamous in her very own Barbie doll! Her gorgeous white, one shoulder gown showed her class and figure. The white was a perfect color for a first time election and she looked innocent and elegant. We were all wondering how she would show last time up.

We asked and she answered! The vixen stunned in a red Jason Wu gown for the event. Michelle stood out in a crowd of stellar performances and glittering stars with her vivacious color choice. The cut was super flattering to her fit physique and slimmed to her cinched waist. Her sublte jewelry was perfect accompaniment for this statement dress as she glided across the dance floor. One thing is for sure, we will miss her style at the next Inauguration.
