What Real Girls Wear To Work

The year is 2013 and the dress code for the office is brand spankin' new! The modern woman has choices on how to dress for the workplace. Business causal has gotten far more relaxed in the past decade as people have traded in their ties for khakis and jeans. Flats have transformed from underneath the desk only to a wear to work shoe. So what are women wearing to work these days? Plush polled five different women in differing jobs to see what they wear during the work week. Below an athlete, a teacher, a medical school student, a marketing product manager and a freelance writer all snapped pictures of their ensembles for the week.

The Writer

The beauty of working for a startup and freelance writing on the side is having the freedom to wear more casual attire while at work. However, tutoring students during the day and writing at night requires a little more effort than sweatpants. Joe's Jeans are the staple for this gals wardrobe. Boots and jewelry are a must have for any ensemble. Hunter rainboots are the perfect solution for the rainy and snowy winter days and the Frye boots provide warmth for the dryer days. A statement J Crew necklace or a golden monogrammed necklace really ties these looks together.

The Future Doctor

Even though this adorable fashionista will wear most of her clothing beneath a white lab coat, she still makes an effort to look chic at work. Her super wearable style gives this Tennessee gal a down to earth appeal. Scarves and trendy footwear make her ensembles trendy and chic. The nude, pointed Nine West wedges are the shining star of her Monday ensemble and the tan brown boots give fuller coverage for chilly days. This blonde med student is best at selecting clothing items that flatter her natural coloring. Red, khaki and black make her light hair and blue eyes shine in the dead of winter.

The Athlete

The modern woman takes on many roles: daughter, sister, mother, role model, and sometimes athlete. The inspirational young lady above is chasing the Olympic dream and has a little fun with fashion in the meantime. As an open water swimmer, she spends most of her time in the pool, training countless hours a day and putting in thousands of yards in each practice. To spice up her time training, she finds unique patterned suits to liven up the pool. For weight training, this athlete trains in Lululemon attire to look lean and stay trendy. Most athletes tend to wear the garb they are given from events they participate in or adorn attire from the team they are on. This athlete is no different; the logo T-shirt in the picture above is a typical look of professional athletes. Wearing a competition logo shirt shows pride and commitment in her job.

The Product Manager

Working in a more formal setting requires a more professional style dress. Because of her involvement in marketing, sales and product development, the young lady above rocks the business professional look with style and grace. The first look is really pulled together by an Urban outfitters blazer. The red color is funky and the item easily transitions from day to night. Her properly fitted pants are perfectly hemmed to accentuate her long and lean figure. To show off her feminine side, the office ready trend-setter throws on a pencil skirt from Anthropologie that is both flirty but formal. She definitely perfected the line between professional and chic.

The Teacher

If you have ever taught in a classroom or spent an afternoon chasing a number of small children around a room, then you know that it's imperative to feel comfortable and be able to feel unrestricted in your style of dress. This rule definitely applies to this Teach for America corps member. The key to this on-the-move teacher's apparel is her fabulous footwear. Pointed flats make her look chic and allow her to instruct ever excitable youngsters in an animated way. This trendy teacher loves the button down look. Cardigans, long sleeve blouses and Ralph Lauren oxford's are the go-to items in her closet. A final tip to learn from this hardworking instructor: regardless of how exhausting your job may be, you can always let your hair down and dress up for your on-the-go job.
