Trend Alert: Eye Gems
Two important occasions happened over the weekend: St. Patrick's Day and Ultra Music Festival in Miami. These two events were cause for celebration and sparked a trend in fashion that will be hot all summer long. Eye crystals or eye gems are hot for this upcoming season. The electric dance music (EDM) scene has sparked this trend for women everywhere. Although raves have always been around, the recent obsession with DJs such as David Guetta and Calvin Harris has inspired a culture.
Although this trend was recently surfacing because of the EDM scene, it started where every fashion trend begins: on the runways with major designers. Kate Moss rocked the look for Roberto Cavalli underwear campaign that focused on eye gems and this year eye crystals were all over the runway for spring and summer trends.
The image above is also from the high fashion world. Christian Dior had his models wear crystal eye makeup for this Spring and Summer show for his 2013 collection. The eye makeup was vibrant and striking like most of the fashion looks. However, runway fashion is not always wearable and the makeup gets toned down to be applicable to the real world.
To wear this trend OFF the runway, you can have subtle shimmer that is lovely and understated. Since this trend is so new, it takes confidence to pull it off. A simple clear gem can make all the difference in your makeup. You can create a cat eye pattern with your normal makeup look or add sequins around the corner and bottom of your eye. One his is for sure, this is a show stopping evening look.
If you want to rock the look like the runway models do, find some vibrant gems and bright eye shadows. Experiment a little! You can dazzle a club or concert with this unique look. You can mix and match colors or simply find one color palate that matches or compliments your original eye color.
Eye Rock is the most popular brand to sell this trend. You can buy this look online or at beauty supply stores. Some CVS stores carry off brands and Sally Beauty supply or Sephora would also be safe bets to shop for this trend.
You can even pick some up while you're shopping at Nordstrom! Try this trend once or twice this upcoming season. It is a cheap and fun way to mix up your look.
