Dress Like Men, Ladies.

Girls will be boys. That's right, when it comes to fashion, this gender play is trendy and fun for most women. There are now more women enrolled in college than men and the glass ceiling is getting smaller and smaller. Women can do almost anything guys can do, including dress like them! Tuxedos, Oxford shoes and adorable vests are not just reserved for men anymore.

Of course, the pioneer icon in this trend is Diane Keaton. Her rol in the infamous movie Annie Hall took the fashion world by storm. Director Woody Allen let Diane wear pretty much anything she wanted. The character reflected her natural style. Keaton happened to enjoy dressing in a more masculine fashion and made is sexy. Tuxedos and ties looked poised and retro on Keaton and on her character. This resulted in a shift of how twenty-something girls were dressing.

Although the movie was released in 1977, the impact was almost immediate and lasted well into the 21st century. Women ran out to buy mens' dress shoes, button down shirts and male accessories. Belts, overalls and tortoise shell glasses made a killing in the recent years after Annie Hall's release and today the style is undoubtedly still going in the preppiest of circles.

Today, the style has evolved to be called the "Boyfriend" style. Jeans, shoes and shirts has been masculinized by women everywhere. The idea of wearing your boyfriends clothing is sexy and fun. It shows that you're a taken woman and that you're confident and cool enough to be seen in mens' clothing. Relaxed jeans, varsity jackets and flannel are often called "boyfriend" items. They look best on petite girls that don't need to show off their thin frame to prove their feminine shape.

Celebrities like Amber Rose, Rachel Bilson, Alexa Chung and Janelle Monae rock this boyfriend style frequently. Amber is often seen in combat boots, a loose white V-neck and slouchy pants. Alexa is a fan of the band T-shirt and can be seen in graphic shirts on the weekends. The tailored suits above are dressing like the boys but fit their feminine shapes.

Now, stylists and bloggers are stealing this trend made popular by Annie Hall and boyfriends everywhere. Fashion designers are creating casual and professional looks for women that are inspired by men. The boyfriend jean is available at almost eery major pant retailer and the Oxford shoe is a staple in any woman's closet. Check out the three ensembles by Hallowpoint on Polyvore for some inspiration.

Keep an eye out for more male looks online and in magazines. The Ivy Style is a great guy look to steal for a gal in a colder climate. Finally, look on Ebay, in thrift stores and in your male friend's closet for items to achieve this look.
